Published: 2026-08-25

About the Automaker

BYD Company Ltd (Build Your Dreams) was founded in Shenzhen in 1995 and is now the world's largest manufacturer of new energy vehicles. Backed by deep vertical integration - it makes its own batteries (the famous Blade Battery), motors, semiconductors and DM-i super-hybrid systems - BYD sells across every price segment from budget EVs to six-figure luxury. In 2025 BYD sold over 4.6 million NEVs and its pure-EV volume surpassed Tesla to become the global annual BEV champion.

2026 Sales & Market Ranking

In the first half of 2026 BYD delivered about 1.78 million NEVs (wholesale), holding a 26.2% share of China's NEV market and ranking #1 by a wide margin. Retail sales reached 990,879 units (21.1% share). June alone hit 403,472 units. Overseas exports reached 789,000 units in H1 (up ~95% YoY), becoming a second growth engine. Note: H1 volume was down roughly 15.9% YoY amid a price war, yet BYD remains far ahead of all rivals.

Development Status

BYD is shifting from pure scale to profitability and global expansion. It is localizing production in Southeast Asia, Europe, Latin America and Hungary, and pushing the premium Yangwang and Fangchengbao sub-brands upward while defending the mass market with aggressive DM-i pricing.
